cloud forming in hardin county -- outside radcliff, iowa. the dark skies seen here outlining much of the area tonight as the sun set. another video coming to us -- this one out of grundy center -- shows a slim funnel cloud slowly spinning near a neighborhood. let's go live now to kwwl's jessica hartman -- she's in sweeping through. jessica? the set and a quiet evening here. many people thankful for that after a hail storm brought some pretty daunting funnel clouds. i want to show you the hail still piled up on the sides of the roads and on buildings. about pea size hail- what's left of it now freezing. here is some viewer video of that funnel cloud in the parkersburgs area. i spoke with a police officer

accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her students. haglin's story has been in the public eye since it surfaced earlier this year -- with the 24-year-old going on several national t-v shows describing her side of what happened. kwwl's kristin rogers has been digging into the story from the start -- she was at haglin's hearing today. kristin? begin in tama county-- instead--haglin was here at the linn county courthouse this mary beth haglin--entering a linn county not letting a jury decide what would be next for her. "is it accurate that your intent today is to wave your right to a jury trial and proceed based on a stipulated bench trial on the "that is correct your honor." "okay." the decision means instead of a 12 person jury deciding whether haglin in guilty--it will now

"okay then miss haglin i will proceed in that fashion i will consider the evidence that has to whether or not you are guilty beyond a resonable doubt based on that evidence." the agreed upon evidence---includes video interviews haglin did with the cedar rapids police department and the child protection center-- it does not include any of the multiple interviews haglin gave "there's no point in hiding it anymore, the evidence and the rumors are stacked so steep." also not included-- none of the interviews haglin did on national t.v.--like this one on inside edition "i realize now how stupid i was and what a terrible mistake was and what a terrible mistake i made." the judge's ruling in this case--should be announced

along with this--haglin is no longer facing a felony-- instead an aggravated misdemeanor which carries a maximum of two years in prison. once the ruling is announced--if haglin is found guilty--a sentencing date will then be set. their next move will be after a fire destroyed their entire dairy parlor. the fire happened yesterday afternoon while the owners were milking their cattle. take a look at the dairy farm today... you can see that barn completely charred to the ground firefighters sifting through the damage just a day after the blaze the fire engulfing that barn yesterday afternoon luckily no animals were killed...and no one was hurt

kwwl's elizabeth amanieh is live with more amanda-despite their milking parlor being a total loss. the birker family is pushing on- telling me its nearly hundred year history wont be going down ken birker "all of a sudden we saw smoke and called the fire did is try to save the other buildings and the cattle." third generation farmer ken birker says this dairy farm has been with the family for more than a hundred years. but a fire last night took a big piece of that well. jenni birker "this was kind of his grandpa, and his great- grandpa, this is what they did. so they've built it from the ground up. but dairy has always been the heart of the farm here." and that's why when they saw the first bit of smoke-they did everything they could to move the cows out. jenni birker "it's kind of amazing in a farming community, that you can make those phone calls and suddenly there's four

of just friends and people to herd, just showed up with their trailers. elizabeth standup "moving all 250 cows thats were in this barn, before that fire could spread." saving all their cattle, but what used to be a working milking parlor-now just rubble. but even as it continues to smolder-birker says he's already planning on rebuilding. ken "like i said, this is a test, you know, how much you can edure, you know." (elizabeth: you're strong.") "you gotta be to be farming and dairy farming on top of that...pretty strong." "these he tails off everyday, and the cows come first all the time. so it doesn't matter, if its three in the morning you're soaked to the bone and you're freezing your firefighters have ruled arson out- saying they don't believe the fire was suspicious. but are looking into see if it was an electrical issue.

independence for the meantime. continuing coverage now into a deadly crash in eastern iowa. we now know the names of both people who died in the weekend collision. it happened here -- at the interstate 3-80 south-bound ramp near the first avenue exit early saturday morning. two people were killed after a collision with a police vehicle. two officers were also hurt in the crash. today -- police saying that two accidents actually happened. officers were working to provide traffic control for the original crash when another car hit the back and side of a squad car. police say 21- year-old matrell demetrius watson was driving the car. both watson and his passenger -- 22- year-old kaitlyn hall-stougard -- were pronounced dead at the scene. both were from cedar rapids. kwwl speaking with the

on 380 and i just kind of like, i kind of instantly thought like i haven't heard from her today she was supposed to call me today or yesterday" "she was my best friend, i don't even know what to think" kaitlyn's family say she was three months pregnant at the time of accident -- and also leaves behind a two-year-old daughter. the two officers hurt in the crash are expected to be okay. coming up on kwwl, down to three -- the uni presidential search is in its final stages...candidates making their way to cedar falls this week...we now know the name of one... a group of landlords in one area city creating a petition -- as they fight for what they say are their renting rights.

following the visits -- the board of regents is set to meet next week to pick the new president. a group of landlords in one area city creating a petition that opposes making it mandatory...to rent people on housing government assistance. they say it's about property "dubuque city council holding a special work session tonight, to discuss this some more. years." right now, 17-percent of rental properties in dubuque, accept housing vouchers... or section eight. it seems, the city wants to increase this...providing more options for affordable housing. they're considering making it illegal for landlords to not accept housing vouchers... and adding this to the non-discrimination ordinance. however, some landlords are against this. and now, a petition opposing this move has nearly 400 signatures. they say it's about their property rights. "main reasons we're concerned should have the right to choose who we want to, based on our criteria not the city's or somebody elses criteria." right now -- the waiting

the uni volleyball team is dancing once again -- the panthers received an at- large bid to the ncaa tournament on sunday night -- which will history -- the panthers fell in the missouri valley conference semifinals on friday after finishing third in the conference -- they'll open against creighton on thursday -- the panthers dropped a match with the blue jays earlier this season -- while it seemed uni was likely to get another bid -- it certainly wasn't guaranteed -- when our name popped up it's very unexplainable the reaction. this is a group you have five group, a lot of team chemitry

opportunity. panther coach bobbi petersen has led the team to 12 tournaments in her 17 years at the helm -- despite a loss on sunday -- the iowa state basketball team has jumped up two spots in the rankings -- the cyclones now sit 19th after wins against indiana state and miami -- followed by a rally from 18 points down that nearly resultn against 11th ranked gonzaga -- isu hosts cincinatti in hilton on thursday -- iowa's desmond king has accepted an invitation to play in the reeses senior bowl -- last year's thorpe award winner as the top defensive back in the country -- has 53 tackles this year and two interceptions -- one of those being a pick six -- the senior bowl is january 28th in mobile, alabama -- iowa state's cole netten has earned the big 12 special teams player of the

loss to west virginia -- netten went four for four on field goal attempts with a long of forty yards -- the four was the most for an isu kicker since 2007 -- the senior led the big twelve in field goal percentage this season and finished third nationally --

christmas... the town of sumner coming together to do something new this year for the holidays. check out this christmas light display. the entire community of sumner came together this year to set this up in their park. this is their first year sumner display... and parts of it are even animated... so it dances on display took a month to set you move them just a little bit, lights can go out. and you have to repair a lot, and it was really fun to do even though it was a lot of work." sumner says this is just the beginning. they hope to grow the display each year. let's go to storm track seven chief meteorologist mark schnackenberg for a last look at your forecast. isolated showers/storms are possible this evening. small
