welcome back to nshs 10 news today. thousands of people still without power. we're live in a neighborhood where crews will be. employees affected by the fire in old city. plus, a chilly sunday ahead. the winds are picking up as we take a live look at the wind turbines in south philadelphia at the sports complex. cloudy out there. sunshine will return later. we're looking ahead to another storm system moving toward us this week. nbc 10 news starts now. >> you don't want to hear it, but we got to tell you to make sure you're prepared. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." >> i'm dray clark.

>> i'm rosemary connors. we want relief but not so fast. let's get a check on your neighborhood forecast. meteorologist krystal klei is looking at your forecast today and what's ahead, unfortunately, this week. >> i do not want to be the bearer of bad news. i tell you what, last year in march we had a one-two punch within a week. it's looking that way again. current winds outside will be one of the issues we deal with today. no precipitation. we will remain dry. but winds, yeah, right around 20 miles per hour in wilmington.no up to 28 miles per hour. that's sustained winds there. this is a windy forecast for us this morning. that will last into the afternoon again. those winds are from the north, northwest. it's a cool wind we're dealing w look at the feels-like temperatures. around freezing. wilmington to philly. 33 mt. holly and atlantic city and below freezing in spots like allentown and pottstown. layer up as you head out the door. temperatures are only going to

pick up a handful of more of degrees for your afternoon. so we're going to feel like 30 throughout much of the day. on your radar and satellite picture. we have the clouds blanketing the region. the good news, i can see the ripple effect. as we get into the afternoon, it's going to spread. we'll see a little more sunshine out there mixed with the clouds. for some of us, you may have a mostly sunny later part of your day. looking ahead, this is what we're tracking. chilly, but some sunshine for your sunday. then it's all about that seasonal dry start to the workweek. by midweek, that's when the next storm moves in. we'll talk more about that comi coming up. utility crews are making some steady progress getting the power back on to thousands after friday's nor'easter. peco has over 122,000 customers without electricity. that's an improvement from friday considering it was over 6,000 at the height of the storm. we have the latest from ppl, ac

electric and delmarva power. randy gyllenhaal is live in a storm-ravaged neighborhood in bryn mawr where crews are busy today. randy? >> reporter: yeah. and good news is the cavalry has arrived. these trucks behind me are from wisconsin and illinois. peco is bringing in reinforcements. this is old golf road in bryn mawr. you can see the situation. a tree down no the front. we go further and you see that transformer and power line that was cracked in half by the wind. that fell down, knocking out power to the entire neighborhood. if you go all the way to the back, you see that white van there. we're told by neighbors, that van was driving down this street during the height of the storm. neighbors heard a sudden gust of wind, it was real loud and then the crash of the tree came down exactly on top of that van. take a listen. >> i poked my head out and asked people if they needed help. a gentleman came in, he had blood on his face.

disoriented, understandably. it turns out this was his car. he was in it. he managed to crawl out the window. emergency crews were called. he was luckily -- >> he was walking? >> he was walking. just i provided him with some paper towels and was asking if he needed help. yeah, he was walking and he was saying he was okay. luckily he stopped by yesterday looking for things and getting things out of car. he was okay. >> reporter: so these crews are going to start working real hard now. we're going to give them space as they start to clear the debris and clear the transformers out of the way. neighbors watching intently because they want to get the power back on. you can understand why it's taking a few days to do that. in addition to the power lines, they've got things like that tree on the car, you got debris scattered everywhere. it's going to take some time. peco says it could take until monday for most customers.

patience is a virtue. let's head county where neighbors try to get around this tree that was blocking oxford road right in havertown. you can see the tree leaning on the power lines. practically hanging over them.e today to clean up the damage. >> oh, my god! holy -- >> that's the frightening response to a chain reaction caught on video last night t started with a downed tree in havertown at about the same time a transformer at the site caught fire. a driver hit the brakes as a tree hit his hood. luckily the driver was not hurt. comcast wants to help you power up after this storm. maybe you're watching us on your phone, because you don't have power on your tv. here's the deal. you can head to one of the xfinity stores to plug in and power up your devices. the free service, comcast is the parent company of nbc 10

sdmiefrm. things got busy yesterday at the 30th street station after the storm pulled away. started again along the northeast corridor. many spent the night at the station because amtrak canceled all trains from friday afternoon to yesterday morning. most septa trains are back on track also. with some delays. rail lines still out of service include west trenton and chestnut hill east. trees fell on the tracks. more than two dozen buses were running on detour routes. the agency is hoping to frolley sometime tomorrow. new overnight a 48-year-old man is dead after crashing into a fence. it happened here around midnight in philadelphia's east falls neighborhood. police tell us the driver lost control and hit this fence at a. police are still investigating what led up to the crash. one man is dead, another in critical condition after both of them were shot in philadelphia overnight. this happened at 6th and spring

garden streets in northern liberties. somebody opened fire on the men while they were sitting inside this car around 2:45 this morning. investigators believe the shooter took off in a silver-colored car. all lanes are now reopened on the roosevelt boulevard after a deadly accident in may fair. police day a woman crashed into a tree at the boulevard and friendship ethospital. police are still investigating how the accident happened. today a philadelphia restaurant closed by a recent building fire on the block will hold aploys. workers at the little lion restaurant in old city at third and chestnut streets will be off the job for at least two months. the benefit, which inc silent auction, is set for mad rex's restaurant in fish town happening from 1:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. the fire back in old city, it was on february 18th. it started in the this historic building that housed a closed diner on the first floor and condos pof. two firefighters had minor

tidal flooding. they upped it back to 3:00 to that flood warning. everybody was under a warning and pulled back to an advisory and now back to the warning. we're looking at minor tidal flooding, i believe. we didn't see more than that. the winds are weaker at this point. if you're in a flood-prone zone in the jersey shore location, don't be surprised if now through the next couple of hours you see some of that flooding occurring. it's less likely in dale ware beach spots but also the potential there. as for the feels-like temperatures, it's going to stay chilly today even though the clouds should break and allow for sunshine. 37 the feels-like temperature in philadelphia this afternoon. in the suburb, 34 degrees and around freezing in the lehigh valley. as for delaware, new jersey and shore neighborhoods, feeling like the upper 30s to close to 40 degrees with mostly sunny conditions late in the day. as for now, though, still cloudy conditions and layer up as you step out the door. thank you, krystal. next, walking the line. teachers in west virginia push

one person is dead in this massive fire in western pennsylvania. the blaze ripped through the building friday night in carnegie. outside pittsburgh. the victim was sleeping. he was pulled out but died later at the hospital. his family said the victim worked in the looking forward to retirement later this year. pundits are calling it unpredictable. we're talking about the election today in italy. it's been marked by anger, high unemployment and immigration debate. the coalition had capitalized on the anti-migrant sentiment has been leading in the polls. analysts predict there will be no clear winner. it could be weeks before a coalitioveappens. west virginia teachers say

their strike will go on after lawmakers did not give them their promised raise. the teachers negotiated a 5% raise with the governor. but last night the republican-controlled senate voted to lower the rate to 4%. teachers say they'll be back on the picket lanes starting monday morning. schools statewide have been closed now for seven days. buying the type of assault rifle used in the florida high school massacre is still legal in the sunshine state. yesterday, republican state senators rejected a democratic backed measure to ban the sale of the weapon for two years. student survivors tweeted, they won't forget the gop's decision. in south florida ye educato state legislation that could arm teachers in the classroom. the rally happened near the site of last month's high school shooting that killed 17 people. teachers at the rally insisted that putting guns in their hands is not the solution. >> there's not a single teacher, there's not a single student

that i have spoken to over the past several days about this topic that thinks it's a good idea tonto our classrooms. >> florida lawmakers have until friday to decide on that legislation. tomorrow, lawyers for bill cosby will be back in a montgomery county courtroom to ask a judge to throw out the sexual assault case against their client altogether. his lawyers are expected to make several motions including claims that there's lack of evidence and misconduct by prosecutors. right now, cosby's retrial is set for next month in norristown, the county seat. the comedian is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting former temple university employee andrea constand at his home in 2004. he may remember his first trial ended in a hung jury. a philadelphia community will come together to remember a hero killed in the line of duty. a vigil will be held for sergeant robert wilson iii.

weather. a few more of the live cameras. this is wilmington, delaware. the cloudy conditions have thickened up over the last couple of hours. we were seeing a good bit of sunshine there. but i don't think the clouds will stick all day long. i do think we'll see sunshine break later in the day which will make more of a mixing forecast. this is actually the cape may lighthouse. not philadelphia. you can see it's cloudy over cape may as well. again, i think we'll see some sun. in fact, a mix of clouds and sun by the end of the day, mostly sunny conditions. the clouds are bent over us. the jersey shore numbers were at 40 degrees in wildwood and avalon. same for -- township as well and 42 the reading in may have landing. because of winds, it will feel a little cooler, more like where we actually are right now. the low 40s.

forecast wind for today. this is the culprit behind that windchill effect. right around 20, 25 miles per hour for the peak sustained winds. notice, they're coming from the northwest which is helping to keep us on the cooler side. gusts 25 to 35 miles per hour. especially this afternoon. again, we're talking a windy day. good news is, not as windy as yesterday and certainly not as windy as friday. we're taking this with a grain of salt because of the wind that we'll feel 5 to 10 degrees cooler. the actual temperatures, 46 in philly. 44 in the lehigh valley and 46 at the jersey shore. with the mix of clouds and sun, leading to mostly sunny by late in the day. like yesterday. late in the day, around sunset, really pretty amount of sunshine. it was a beautiful, beautiful sunset wherever you were. all right. let's do t talk about the next coastal storm. monday and tuesday are going to be dry. both monday and tuesday, temperatures will be average for this time of year. by tuesday night through wednesday night, at least we are tracking our next storm

potential. may even be into thursday morning according to a few computer models. what are we looking at? rain turning to snow. possibly heavy snow. enough that some models indicating you may have to do a little shoveling, even down to philly. some give us a mix and some give us heavy snow. totals as a result are in question. this is something the whole team is working on. we've been texting and chatting. we'll continue our conversation and give you the latest as soon as we're more confident with them. it will be windy. n wind on friday much that is the good news. there's a look. monday morning through tuesday, we stay clear. but watch this. tuesday night we start in to mix farther north. then there you go. by wednesday morning, now we se philly. the coastal low brushing up against us. there i by wednesday afternoon into the evening hours, that's when the

heaviest snow anday hit. that's wednesday late day and bo the night. >> we'll be watching it closely. thanks, krystal. let's talk about a little news out of washington. president trump is expected to implement his controversial new tax plan on alum number and steel imports this week. he surprised his closest advisers. europe is threatening it's own tariffs on products like blue jeans and bourbon. >> they retaliate against what they determine to be politically sensitive sectors. american jobs could be lost if a new trade war starts. many republicans who are against these tariffs continue to hope the president will change his mind sdpliefrj the trade issue is just one of several controversies appearing to irritate president trump inside the white house. >> we spoke to chuck todd earlier this morning about it. >> we've seen this before. is there something different about what happened this past

overcrowded shelt ner the south. he came to our center. he went and he spent some time at the perfect pooch in cringe of prussia which is where sara works. spot is very dog friendly. he worked with other dogs while he was at the perfect pooch. he's best with older kids, just due to his size. sometimes he forgets he's a big buy. older kids would be best for him. when you adopt spot, you get strange. thanks to the generous donor, somebody paid his adoption fee for him. what's really cool this month, we have our large dog special, for dogs 40 pounds or more, they're $50 off. >> he's got a beautiful face on him. he seems so calm right now. you said he does have a lot of energy. go for someone with a dog with lots of energy. >> a more active home would be ideal. >> make a good running partner.
